Dear Members and Supporters,
Further to last week’s Social Media announcement, I feel it is important to address a matter that has come to our attention following the match between Silhillians RUFC and Syston RFC on Saturday, 18th January 2025.
The referee of the match has filed a formal complaint concerning the conduct of members/supporters at the end of the match. Specifically, the complaint highlighted instances of unsporting behaviour and verbal abuse, which has unfortunately detracted from the overall tremendous effort of our 1st XV on the pitch.
Our club has always prided itself on maintaining the highest standards of respect, integrity, and sportsmanship, both on and off the field. We recognise that rugby is a passionate and competitive sport, but it is essential that we all conduct ourselves within the spirit of the game, with due respect for referees and all participants.
I want to reassure all our members that we are taking this matter very seriously. Our coaching staff, players, and club officials will be addressing this issue to ensure it does not happen again. In addition, we are in contact with the RFU to discuss any necessary steps, which will include disciplinary actions as required. We will also take steps to prevent any recurrence of such behaviour and to ensure that our club remains a positive representation of rugby values.
As a club, we expect all our players, coaches, and supporters to adhere to rugby’s core values along with our own set of values (a reminder of these below), both on and off the field, ensuring we always contribute to the game's positive atmosphere. May I also draw your attention to the graphics attached to this announcement that are self explanatory.
I will continue to keep you informed as the situation progresses. In the meantime, I would like to thank you all for your ongoing support and understanding as we work to address this matter appropriately and remind you of our Code of Conduct, linked below.
Best regards,
Lee Jones
Chairman,
