Dear Members,

It is with a deep sense of dismay and embarrassment that I must address a matter of great concern that occurred this past weekend. On Saturday, 18th January 2025, we were made aware of a series of negative and reputation-damaging comments posted on our official Instagram account. These comments, which reflect poorly on both our club and the sport as a whole, have led to us receiving a written warning from Warwickshire RFU. As a result, our club is now under close scrutiny, and any future transgressions will be taken seriously, with the possibility of sanctions being imposed on our 1st XV if deemed necessary.

This behaviour, regardless of intent or context, undermines the hard work and dedication of many people; players, coaches, volunteers, and supporters, who have been working tirelessly to improve this club and uphold the values that rugby embodies. It is crucial that we remember that, as members of Silhillians Rugby Club, we represent not just ourselves but the community as a whole, and our actions on and off the pitch reflect on the reputation of the entire organisation.

I would like to remind all members of the importance of adhering to the guidelines set out in our social media policy. It is vital that we use our platforms responsibly and with respect for one another, upholding the core values of the game: Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship.

Moving forward, I expect all members to take this matter seriously and to fully comply with the rules and guidance that have been established to protect the club’s reputation. We cannot afford to let the actions of a few undermine the collective efforts of many. Anybody falling short of these expectations will face an internal disciplinary hearing and their membership may be revoked.

Please take the time to review our social media policy and ensure that your conduct aligns with the standards we expect. Let us work together to preserve the integrity of Silhillians RUFC and to continue fostering a positive and respectful environment for everyone involved.
