A delighted Silhillians Under 12s won the prestigious Land Rover Cup at Bromsgrove RFC on Sunday. The Sils side made up mainly of pupils of Solihull School, Arden Academy and Tudor Grange, were joint champions last season. They went one better this year, winning the trophy outright, scoring a remarkable 21 tries and conceding none. Earlier in the day they navigated a group stage safely on points difference, and a semi-final against Newport with a 15-0 victory. In the final, Sils faced a physically imposing Wolverhampton side. In a superb display of skill, guts and determination the Sils players gave a master class in both defence and attack, running in three tries and shutting out the Wolves attack. They now have the honour of taking part in the Parade of Champions at the Aviva Premiership Rugby Final at Twickenham in May, where they are presented to a sell-out crowd at half-time.
All the coaches were so proud of the boys on Sunday. The level of performance was the highest we have ever seen from them, and the intense competition for places in the starting team was a major factor in their win. The lads can now say they are one of the best 12 sides in the country as well as West Midlands champions, and they full deserved their success.
